John Leguizamo joins Michael Shannon and Taylor Kitsch in Waco event series

March 27, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Back in August it was reported that Taylor Kitsch (True Detective) and Michael Shannon (Midnight Special) had joined an event series based around the 1993 Waco standoff, and now Deadline is reporting that John Leguizamo has joined the cast as ATF agent Robert Rodriguez, who was sent into David Koresh’s Mount Carmel to gather evidence and build a federal case against the Branch Davidians but forged a bond with the people inside.

“We are thrilled to have John in this part. He brings phenomenal range and authenticity to everything he does,” says Ted Gold, Senior Vice President, Scripted Original Series for Paramount. “The role of Robert Rodriguez is little known, but utterly fascinating as he was the only undercover agent to infiltrate David Koresh’s compound.”

The series has been written by John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle (No Escape) and directed by John Erick Dowdle and will explore the standoff from multiple perspectives from both sides of the conflict, which ultimately left four ATF agents and 82 cult members dead. Kitsch is set to play cult leader David Koresh, with Shannon as FBI negotiator Gary Noesener.

Production on Waco is set to get underway in Santa Fe, New Mexico in April.
