Jon Favreau’s Star Wars series to begin shooting, first set photos revealed

September 30, 2018 by Gary Collinson

The future of the Star Wars saga post-Episode IX may be in a little up in the air at the moment following the box office disappointment of Solo: A Star Wars Story, but that’s certainly not the case on the small screen.

As well as the incoming animated series Star Wars Resistance and a revival of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Disney and Lucasfilm have tapped Jon Favreau to produce a live-action TV series for the Mouse House’s new streaming service, and it seems that the project is now about to begin shooting.

According to Making Star Wars, cameras will reportedly begin rolling on the as-yet-untitled series this coming week, and the site has also unveiled a batch of set photos which appear to show some kind of Mos Eisley-style spaceport.

It does seem very odd that the series would begin shooting without any casting news, but it’s possible that Lucasfilm is waiting until principal photography begins to hit us with a full announcement. If so, expect some official news in the coming days.

So far, all that is known about the series is that it is set between the Original Trilogy and Sequel Trilogy, while rumours have suggested that it will take place around three years after the death of The Emperor in Return of the Jedi and focuses on the planet of Mandalore.

Jon Favreau is no stranger to the galaxy far, far away, having voiced the character Pre Vizsla on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, as well as appearing as Rio Durrant in this year’s Solo.
