Joss Whedon talks the fate of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Age of Ultron, “I f***ing kill them”

January 26, 2015 by Luke Owen

If there is one thing that Joss Whedon is famous for, it’s killing off popular characters to get a reaction from his audience. Last time round it was Agent Coulson, but who will it be this time in Avengers: Age of Ultron?

Well, in an interview Empire, Whedon clearly has deadly plans for not just one member, but the whole team.

“I f*cking kill them. All of them. I do it. Marvel don’t even realise it. When they see the final cut, they’ll be like, ‘Omigod! What are we going to do for Phase 3? We literally have no one! Except Ant-Man!’ They’re going to be so pissed.”

Of course, Whedon is kidding. Right?

But there was that shot in the Comic-Con footage of Avengers: Age of Ultron in which Tony Stark sees a vision created by Scarlet Witch that sees his team beaten and killed. When asked by the magazine if the Mad Titan Thanos had anything to do with that, Whedon replied, “I can neither confirm nor deny that it totally is.”

Marvel Studios presents “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is set for release in the UK on April 24th 2015 and North America on May 1st 2015, with Joss Whedon directing a cast that includes Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (The Incredible Hulk), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Paul Bettany (JARVIS / The Vision), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Quicksilver), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter), Idris Elba (Heimdall), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), James Spader (Ultron), Thomas Kretschmann (Baron Strucker), and Josh Brolin (Thanos).
