Joss Whedon’s Batgirl movie reportedly based on the New 52 version of Barbara Gordon

March 31, 2017 by Gary Collinson

It was announced yesterday that Joss Whedon is looking to make the jump from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the DC Extended Universe, with The Avengers director said to be in talks with Warner Bros. about writing and directing a Batgirl solo movie.

While a deal is yet to be reached, Entertainment Weekly seems to have the inside scoop on the potential project, with the site reporting that Whedon will be tackling the New 52 version of Barbara Gordon, incorporating comic book writer Gail Simone’s “harder-edged” version of the character.

If you’re not up to speed on Batgirl continuity, the New 52 series saw Barbara recovered from her injuries at the hands of The Joker in Batman: The Killing Joke, which had left her confined to a wheelchair as Oracle. Having regained her mobility thanks to experimental surgery, Barbara once again dons the Batgirl costume to fight crime on the streets of Gotham City

Are you excited about the prospect of a Joss Whedon-directed Batgirl? Let us know your thoughts on the project in the comments below…
