Just how much of Thanos will we see in Guardians of the Galaxy?

June 3, 2014 by admin

There has been much speculation about the role of Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy and the casting of Josh Brolin this week has only spurred things on further. Well, Vulture claim they have the inside scoop on his involvement.

Watch out, as there could be spoilers ahead…

According to the website, The Mad Titan will play a large role in the movie and Guardians of the Galaxy will see him get the fourth stone in the Infinity Gauntlet held by The Collector (Benicio Del Toro). The article claims that the movie will see Thanos go after the Power Stone and that the the Aether seen delivered to The Collector at end of Thor: The Dark World will act as the movie’s version of the Reality Stone. Vulture also speculates that the Tesseract seen in Captain America: The First Avenger will be the movie’s Space Stone while Loki’s “mind controlling stick” will be the Mind Stone. Should that be the case, then one would assume that the Marvel’s Phase Three movies would see Thanos go after the Soul and Time Stones before we get to Avengers 3.

Who doesn’t love a bit of speculation eh?

As for how much he will be in the movie, here’s what Vulture claim:

Though Thanos didn’t appear until the very end of The Avengers, Vulture has learned that he’ll emerge in the first act of Guardians of the Galaxy, albeit via hologram. That will remain Thanos’s preferred method of communication throughout the film — a move the Mad Titan likely cribbed from the equally enigmatic Emperor Palpatine in The Empire Strikes Back — though Thanos finally shows up in the purple flesh for a scene that also features Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) and Nebula (Karen Gillan), who do the Mad Titan’s bidding and serve as the primary adversaries in Guardians. Still, though Thanos is only briefly glimpsed throughout Guardians, his presence is palpable throughout: Characters reference him often and fearfully, and he has familial ties to Gamora (Zoe Saldana), our green-skinned female lead.

What do we think?

Guardians of the Galaxy is set for release on July 31st in the UK and August 1st in North America and sees James Gunn (Super) directing a cast that also includes Chris Pratt (The LEGO Movie) as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora, Dave Bautista (Riddick) as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper (American Hustle) as Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel (Fast & Furious 6) as Groot, Lee Pace (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) as Ronan the Accuser, Karen Gillan (Doctor Who) as Nebula, Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond) as Korath, John C. Reilly (Step Brothers) as Rhomman Dey and Glenn Close (Damages) as Nova Prime Rael.
