Keira Knightley set to star in Ridley Scott-produced Boston Strangler movie

October 5, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Keira Knightley is heading to Boston. More specifically she’s on her way there to star in 20th Century Studios’ Boston Strangler movie, which will begin shooting this December.

As per Deadline, Knightley will star in the true crime drama, which is being written and directed by Matt Ruskin. Ridley Scott and Kevin Walsh of Scott Free are producing alongside Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara of LuckyChap Entertainment.

Ruskin brings some previous to the true-crime biopic as he is best known for Crown Heights, the Lakeith Stanfield film which was adapted from the This American Life podcast that centred on the true story of Colin Warner, who was wrongfully convicted of murder.

According to the report Ruskin’s film will be based on Loretta McLaughlin, who will be played by Knightley. She was the first reporter to connect the murders and break the story of the Strangler. She and fellow reporter Jean Cole challenged the sexism of the early 1960s to report on the city’s most notorious serial killer and worked tirelessly to keep women informed. Loretta pursued the story at great personal risk and uncovered corruption that cast doubt on the true identity of the Boston Strangler.

Knightley excelled when she was last tasked with the role of investigative journalist in Official Secrets, and now she gets to tackle a Zodiac level case with the Boston Strangler.
