Kevin Costner could be riding off into the sunset when it comes to his smash-hit show Yellowstone, with reports emerging of an alleged falling out with series creator Taylor Sheridan.
According to Entertainment Tonight, the Academy Award winning actor will leave the Yellowstone ranch following season five, which hasn’t even resumed filming following its scheduled series hiatus.
ET’s sources said the announcement “comes after reports of alleged drama between the star of the Paramount Network series and co-creator Taylor Sheridan over the actor’s filming commitments to the remaining episodes of the current season.”
Rumours began to surface in February that there were production issues on Yellowstone due to Costner’s rigid filming schedule, with the actor limiting the shoot to 65 days per season. Couple this with the fact that Costner is eager to start filming on his own Western epic Horizon, and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan has himself a headache, especially considering there are still 6 episodes of season five to film.
If Costner does prematurely hang up his hat as John Dutton, Paramount can rest safe in the knowledge that the Yellowstone franchise still has the Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren-led prequel series 1923, the rumoured Matthew McConaughey spin-off, and Bass Reeves, an 1883 spin-off starring David Oyelowo.
