Kevin Smith announces new Mallrats sequel Twilight of the Mallrats

January 6, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Having dusted off his plans for a third Clerks movie, Kevin Smith has now revealed that he’s taking another crack at a sequel to his second film Mallrats, the filmmaker announcing on Instagram that he’s started work on a script entitled Twilight of the Mallrats.

“I’m off to a fun start by writing stuff for Brodie Bruce & Co. to say in the new script I’m calling Twilight of the Mallrats,” states Smith on Instagram. “The Clerks III script is also underway, so we’ll see which flick will be my first film of the roaring 2020s.”

Smith, who recently returned to his shared View Askewniverse with Jay & Silent Bob Reboot, had originally planned a Mallrats sequel – titled MallBrats – back in 2015, although he encountered rights issues with studio Universal Pictures and decided to revamp the project as a ten-episode series, although it failed to entice Universal TV.

Smith’s second movie (and his first studio project), Mallrats was a flop at the box office, but quickly developed a cult following. Featuring in its cast were Smith, Jason Mewes, Jason Lee, Jeremy London, Shannen Doherty, Ethan Suplee, Joey Lauren Adams, Claire Forlani, Michael Rooker and Ben Affleck.

Are you excited about the prospect of a Mallrats sequel? Would you like to see it before Clerks III? Let us know in the comments, or on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
