Leigh Whannell and Jason Blum weigh in on the future of The Invisible Man

May 28, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Writer/director Leigh Whannell and producer Jason Blum have weighed in on the potential future of this year’s hit horror movie, The Invisible Man.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Whannell and Blum discussed the possibility of turning The Invisible Man into a future franchise and while the director isn’t thinking about a sequel right now, Blum is eager to learn the next step of the story.

“Well, I’ll say this, I never — Jason knows this about me — I never think about sequels when I’m making a film because it’s so hard to make one good movie, so I feel like it’s an impossible task to start thinking about what it’s going to spin off into,” Whannell said. “And I have made movies that have spawned many sequels, writing the first Saw movie, and Insidious, so probably, to the viewer, it may seem like I’m thinking in terms of franchises, but I never am. Ever, ever, ever. And this is that. So, I don’t know, but I know that Jason wants to know where it’s going.”

Blum added, “Yes, I do, I ask Leigh every day, where this is going. Every day, and I never get a straight answer.”

While neither Whannell or Blum have confirmed whether a sequel will happen, following on from the critical and financial success of the reimagining of The Invisible Man, it wouldn’t be a surprise if a follow-up does enter production if Whannell comes up with a great story.
