Lucifer season 6 in jeopardy due to Tom Ellis contract dispute

April 20, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Lucifer fans received some rather exciting and unexpected news last month with the announcement that showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson had closed deals for a sixth season of the DC/Vertigo comic book adaptation, with reports then circulating that star Tom Ellis had also signed on to reprise the title role of Lucifer Morningstar.

Well, it appears that it may not quite be a done deal just yet, as TV Line is reporting that negotiations between Ellis and Warner Bros. Television have come to a standstill after the actor reportedly rejected the latest offer on the table from the studio.

The site claims that while Ellis already has a deal in place for a sixth season, there have been disputes over pay and that while WB has “sweetened the pot” multiple times. It quotes a source as stating that “Everyone wants Tom to be happy. But there’s a limit, and it’s been reached.”

The article goes on to state that, should Ellis fail to honour his existing deal, he may well find himself in breach of contract. As for the supporting cast, contract options are all in place and will be picked up if and when negotiations with Ellis reach a satisfactory conclusion.

Lucifer originally aired for three seasons on FOX, before being saved from cancellation by Netflix. The upcoming fifth season was intended to be its last, only for Netflix to reach out for more after the show’s strong performance on the streaming network.
