Luke Evans to lead true crime drama The Pembrokeshire Murders

January 24, 2020 by Gary Collinson

The Alienist star Luke Evans is heading back to the small screen to lead the cast of the new ITV crime drama The Pembrokeshire Murders, which is being produced by World Productions, the company behind the hits Line of Duty and Bodyguard.

Based on the true crime book The Pembrokeshire Murders: Catching the Bullseye Killer, the three-part series will see Evans portraying Steve Wilkins, a Detective Superintendent on the Dyfed Powys police force who reopens two unsolved double murders from the 1980s and uses pioneering forensic methods to identify a suspect who is nearing the end of a prison sentence for burglaries. Along with his team, Steve races to find enough forensic evidence to charge the suspect before he has the opportunity to potentially kill again.

“It is a privilege to be playing the role of Steve Wilkins in The Pembrokeshire Murders and working again with Simon Heath, his team at World Productions and ITV,” said Evans. “It’s a huge responsibility for me as the drama depicts a true crime which to this day still affects the families of those whose lives were tragically taken.”

“Nick Stevens script is a fascinating and insightful account into how and why the Dyfed Powys Police team reopened this cold case and brought a serial killer to justice after he’d evaded capture for nearly two decades,” added Poly Hill of ITV. ” I have wanted to work with Luke Evans again since we made The Great Train Robbery, which Simon Heath and World Productions also produced. I’m delighted that The Pembrokeshire Murders is that project, as Luke will be incredible as Steve Wilkins and this is going to be an unmissable drama for our ITV audience.”

Evans was last seen on the big screen in Roland Emmerich’s World War II epic Midway and is currently preparing to shoot The Angel of Darkness, the follow-up to TNT’s The Alienist.
