Mad Max spinoff Furiosa pushed back to 2024

September 13, 2021 by Gary Collinson

It looks like we’re going to have to wait a little longer for a return to The Wasteland, as Warner Bros. Pictures has pushed back the release of George Miller’s upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road spinoff Furiosa back a year to 2024.

The prequel, which has cast Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit, Last Night in Soho) in the Charlize Theron role of Furiosa and also has Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II on board, was originally scheduled to open on June 23rd 2023 but has now been pushed to May 24th 2024.

Mad Max: Furiosa is gearing up to shoot in New South Wales in the new year, and the production is expected to be the biggest ever in Australia, with Deadline reporting that it will inject over $350 million AUD (around $257 million USD) into the local economy as well as creating more than 850 jobs.

The new release date should certainly give Miller plenty of time to work on the movie, with the filmmaker having spent close to five years on Fury Road from the casting of Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron as Max and Furiosa through to the film’s eventual release in 2015. It was however completely worth the wait.
