Mahershala Ali in talks to star in Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic World movie

May 31, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Ordinarily it’s the dinosaurs we get excited about when it comes to travelling to Jurassic World, but Gareth Edwards is rounding up quite the human herd for his forthcoming reboot, with news emerging that Mahershala Ali in talks to star in the summer 2025 blockbuster.

According to The Hollywood Reporter the two-time Academy Award winner is set to be the latest addition to the Universal movie franchise, joining the already announced line-up of Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo.

Ali will be looking for projects while he waits for the similarly 65 million years in the making Blade reboot to begin filming following numerous delays, with the Jurassic World shoot is set to get underway within the next few weeks in London.

The Moonlight and Green Book Oscar winner was heard performing voice duties in 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and starring Netflix’s apocalyptic drama Leave the World Behind

Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic World is set to be a fresh take on the JP IP, with the franchise’s original screenwriter David Koepp returning to write in the hope that they can reinvigorate the the $6 billion grossing franchise following the muted reception given to 2022’s Dominion. Frank Marshall and Patricia Crowley are producing, with Jurassic Park director Steven Spielberg executive producing. The monster mayhem is set for release on July 2nd, 2025.
