Malina Weissman to play young Supergirl

March 9, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

After news of Helen Slater (the original Supergirl) and Dean Cain’s (The New Adventures of Lois and Clark) involvement in the new CBS show Supergirl, as well as last week’s official reveal of Melissa Benoist (Whiplash) in her Supergirl costume, word has broke about who will play Kara Zor-El in her formative years.

Malina Weissman, best known to audiences from playing young April O’Neill in last year’s Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, will play the child version of Karain the show.

Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, was born on the planet Krypton and escaped amid its destruction years ago. After arriving on Earth, Kara was taken in by a foster family who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers. Benoist will portray Kara from around the age of 24, while Weissman will presumably be seen in flashbacks exploring the character’s early years.

Supergirl is set to air on CBS this year, will filming already underway in Los Angeles.
