Margaret Qualley in talks to play female lead in Adam Wingard’s Death Note

November 14, 2015 by Justin Cook

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Margaret Qualley, who is best known for her work on HBO’s The Leftovers, is in negotiations to star as the female lead alongside Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars) in Warner Bros.’s Death Note.

Death Note is a live-action horror film based on the popular 2003 Japanese manga series of the same name, which was eventually turned into an anime series in 2006. The plot centers around a boy who stumbles across a notebook which grants him the ability to kill anyone he wants by writing down the victim’s name. “A cat-and-mouse games ensues” when a suspicious police officer begins to track down the boy.

Qualley, daughter of actress Andie MacDowell, has also appeared in 2013’s Palo Alto and is set to pop up in Shane Black’s upcoming Ryan Gosling-led film The Nice Guys.

Death Note is directed by Adam Wingard (You’re Next, The Guest) and scripted by Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four). The project, which is produced by Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jason Hoffs and Masi Oka, will begin shooting in spring 2016.
