Mark Hamill wishes that Disney followed George Lucas’ original outline for the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy

December 12, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Mark Hamill has never been shy about his hesitance over Disney’s new Star Wars trilogy. While there is clearly no bad feelings between the Luke Skywalker icon and Disney, he does wish that the studio hadn’t steered away from George Lucas’ vision quite so far with the last few films. Sitting down with Metro, the actor goes into detail:

“What I wish is that they had been more accepting of his guidance and advice. Because he had an outline for ‘7,’ ‘8,’ and ‘9’. And it is vastly different to what they have done… I don’t want to be an old stick in the mud. There were the originals. There’s the prequels. But that’s all George. And now we have the next generation. And as far as I can see they are more popular than ever.”

Hamill seems to be one of those rare actors that can have a difference of opinion on set, maintain a working relationship with those he disagrees with, and (gasp!) not have the situation turn ugly. Seriously: Mark Hamill has been pretty vocal about his differences of opinion with director Rian Johnson over Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but not once has there been any hint of behind-the-scenes fighting, drama, etc. Word on the street is that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is good, and more than lives up to the spirit of the originals. It won’t be long before fans can find out for themselves (and we’ll have our review up when the embargo lifts at 5pm today).
