Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War adds $275 million in second weekend and pushes MCU beyond $16 billion

May 6, 2018 by Gary Collinson

After enjoying a record breaking opening last time around, and becoming the fastest movie to reach $1 billion yesterday, Marvel’s superhero blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War has added a further $275 million worldwide in its second weekend.

Domestically, Infinity War retained top spot with $112.5 million (the second-biggest second weekend ever), pushing its North American haul to $450.8 million. Internationally, it grossed $162.6 million – including a $17.6 million opening in Russia – taking its overseas total to $713.3 million.

Combined, Avengers: Infinity War has now earned $1.164 billion, making it the fifth biggest superhero movie of all time. With its China release to come this Friday, May 11th, it’s only a matter of time before Infinity War overtakes 2012’s The Avengers to take the title of the highest-grossing superhero movie.

The success of Avengers: Infinity War has now pushed the MCU beyond the $16 billion mark combined – and with Infinity War still raking in the cash and Ant-Man and the Wasp still to come this summer, it’s possible that the MCU will end the year with $17 billion plus in box office takings.
