After scoring an enormous opening last weekend – the biggest ever pre-summer debut, and second-biggest weekend in history – Marvel’s latest superhero blockbuster Black Panther has again enjoyed a whopping weekend at the box office, passing the $700 million mark worldwide in the process.
Domestically, Black Panther grossed $108 million over the Friday to Sunday period, the second largest second weekend ever after Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($149.2 million) and $5 million ahead of Marvel’s previous best The Avengers ($103 million). It now sits on $400 million in total in North America.
Black Panther’s $108 million haul is actually bigger than the opening weekends for Justice League ($93 million) and Wonder Woman ($103.3 million), as well as The Fate of the Furious ($98.8 million).
Internationally, Black Panther added a further $83.8 million to take its worldwide gross to $704 million after just two weeks. It’s the tenth entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to pass the $700 million mark, and will soon overtake Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s $714.3 million gross.

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, King T’Challa returnsohome to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country’s new leader. However, T’Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje, Wakandan special forces, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.
