Marvel’s Wonder Man starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II begins production

January 15, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Wonder Man is a new Disney+ Marvel series, and it’s finally seeing its production begin as filming on the series, which is set to star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, is now officially underway, as confirmed by Collider.

There’s no official news from Marvel Studios on the production start, but Collider reports that fans spotted filming on location in California. Shang-Chi filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton is still overseeing the series.

Production on the series was initially set to start last spring. Due to the WGA strike and then the SAG-AFTRA strike, things were put on pause. During that time, Marvel saw a complete overhaul of its TV slate, with Daredevil: Born Again losing its showrunner and directors. At the time of writing, there’s no report if Wonder Man has undergone any retooling like the other MCU shows.

Wonder Man is based upon the character of Simon Williams, a supervillain-turned-Avenger created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Don Heck. Specific details on Marvel’s plans for the character are being kept under wraps, but we know that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will be joined in the cast by Ed Harris, Stella Meghie, Demetrius Grosse, and Ben Kingsley, who reprises his Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi role as Trevor Slattery.
