Matthew Vaughn discusses his Juggernaut scene for X-Men: Days of Future Past

February 18, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Despite all the early negativity towards the character, as it turned out Evan Peters’ Quicksilver was one of the highlights of last year’s mutant superhero sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past, with the Pentagon escape sequence proving to be the stand out sequence of the movie.

However, had Matthew Vaughn not vacated the director’s chair, we’d never have seen it, as the British filmmaker planned to use Juggernaut to break Magneto out of his maximum security cell. Speaking to Empire, the Kingsman: The Secret Service director explained how it would have went down:

“I had Juggernaut being thrown out of a plane at 20,000 feet and using his head to go down a hole to get to the bottom of [The White House]. I had Beast saying, ‘I have a plan,’ and him replying, ‘What’s the plan? What’s the plan?’, and they go higher and higher and Beast was going to go, ‘This is it!’ and chuck him out the window. Then he goes smashing through [The White House] with his and Magneto goes, ‘Who the fuck are you?’”

Vaughn went on to admit that he preferred Bryan Singer’s take on the escape, adding that: “I woudl have made the movie worse. The Quicksilver scene was better.”
