Max Landis no longer writing Chronicle 2

July 18, 2013 by admin

Screenwriter Max Landis has revealed that he’s no longer attached to the sequel to last year’s low-budget hit Chronicle, taking to Twitter to state that he’s “been off Chronicle 2 for months now” and that the project “is still probably happening” with the studio having hired new writers, whom he expects to be announced soon.

The sequel to Chronicle was announced back in March 2012 off the back of the box-office performance of the first movie, with Fox hiring Landis to script the follow-up, although director Josh Trank opted against a return, instead choosing to work on another of the studio’s superhero projects, The Fantastic Four. However, last October John Landis (Max’s dad) suggested that executives were unhappy with the direction of the script for Chronicle 2 (which he described as an “evolution” from the original), and while Max played down talk of a rift back in April, it appears that the two parties have been unable to resolve the situation.

So, with both Josh Trank and Max Landis now off Chronicle 2, is it time Fox pulled the plug, or are you still looking forward to the sequel? Let us know in the comments below….
