Michael B. Jordan to produce DC’s Static Shock movie

October 19, 2020 by Gary Collinson

During the DC FanDome event in August it was announced that Warner Bros. and DC Films are working on a live-action Static Shock movie with director  Reginald Hudlin (House Party), and now comes word from The Hollywood Reporter that Fantastic Four and Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan is set to produce the adaptation through his Outlier Society production banner.

“I’m proud to be a part of building a new universe centered around black superheroes; our community deserves that,” said Jordan. “Outlier Society is committed to bringing to life diverse comic book content across all platforms and we are excited to partner with Reggie and Warner Bros on this initial step.”

Static Shock revolves around the African-American teenager Virgil Hawkins, who originally appeared in 1993’s Static #1 from Milestone Comics before starring in the popular DC Animated Universe series Static Shock between 2000 and 2004 and making his way into the main DC Comics continuity in 2008.

The live-action movie is part of the relaunch of DC’s Milestone imprint, which has Hudlin as a partner, and will include a number of projects including a new Static Shock digital comic book series and graphic novel.
