Mickey Mouse goes killer in Infestation 88, the Steamboat Willie-inspired game

January 2, 2024 by EJ Moreno

With the earliest version of Disney’s Mickey Mouse entering the public domain today via Steamboat Willie, the inevitable horror-related media was bound to happen, and the first significant drop will be Infestation 88, a new 1-v-4-player survival-horror co-op game.

Nightmare Forge describes the game: “In the year 1988, what was thought to be an outbreak of rodents in various locations morphed into something far more sinister.”

As you’ll see in the reveal teaser, you must figure out your fight or flight against the Mickey-looking monster. The reveal notes that you’ll set “traps and utilize CCTV cameras to try and stay one step ahead of the infestation, and item layouts are randomized to help keep matches fresh.”

The game resembles last year’s cult horror film Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. Filmmakers quickly gave it a dark twist as Pooh Bear & the 100-Acre Woods entered the public domain and game developers didn’t take long to start cooking up a scary Mickey Mouse game. Check out the Infestation 88 trailer here…

Nightmare Forge games has announced Infestation 88, a new horror game that aims to blend terror with nostalgia (in the vein of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey) by twisting the now-in-the-public-domain Steamboat Willie into something much scarier.

Infestation 88 is in development for PC.
