Miriam Margolyes joins Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials as The Meep

September 17, 2023 by Gary Collinson

The BBC has announced that BAFTA-winning actress Miriam Margolyes (Harry Potter, Call the Midwife) is heading to the world of Doctor Who for a guest role in the upcoming 60th anniversary specials for the iconic British sci-fi series.

“I’m relieved I got to work on Doctor Who before I died. With sci-fi you never know. Thank you for making an old woman very happy,” said Margoyles, who will lend her voice to The Meep, a creature adapted from the classic Doctor Who Weekly comic strip Doctor Who and the Star Beast.

The Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials will air in November, with David Tennant making his return to the franchise as the Fourteenth Doctor under returning showrunner Russell T. Davis. The three specials will then lead into the introduction of Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, with his debut set for the festive period.

Along with Margoyles, Tennant and Gatwa, the 60th anniversary specials will feature Catherine Tate (Donna Noble), Jacqueline King (Sylvia Noble), Karl Collins (Shauyn Temple), Ruth Madeley (Shirley Anne Bingham), Bernard Cribbins (Wilfred Mott) and Yasmin Finney (Rose Noble).
