Modern-day A Fistful of Dollars TV series in development

September 29, 2020 by Ricky Church

Deadline has revealed that A Fistful of Dollars, the Spaghetti Western that launched Clint Eastwood’s career and was the first of director Sergio Leonne’s The Man With No Name Trilogy, is set for a modern day TV series adaptation with Mark Gordon Pictures developing the project.

Mark Gordon Pictures acquired the rights to A Fistful of Dollars as well as the 1961 Akira Kurosawa samurai film it was based upon, Yojimbo. Bryan Cogman (Game of Thrones) is in talks to adapt the films into the series.

Yojimbo and A Fistful of Dollars tells “the story of a wandering stranger, ‘The Man With No Name,’ who comes to a town riddled with violence, and uses wit and skill to trick the town’s competing gangs into destroying each other.” The series will pull from this source material for an original, contemporary retelling of the story.

A Fistful of Dollars made Clint Eastwood a household with his role as ‘Joe’, who would later become known as The Man With No Name’ after playing the same character under other aliases or nicknames in For A Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, the last of which is commonly referred to as one of the best Westerns ever made.
