Mortal Kombat reboot will bring fatalities to the big screen for the first time

July 18, 2019 by Gary Collinson

This isn’t entirely unexpected, given that it’s already been announced that the film will have an R-rating, but screenwriter Greg Russo has confirmed that the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie reboot will bring the franchise’s signature fatalities to the big screen for the very first time.

Since it's already been stated by other members of the team, I'm gonna put this one to bed. MK WILL be R-Rated and for the first time EVER, FATALITIES will FINALLY be on the big screen (and no I'm not gonna say which ones) You'll just have to wait for the movie & see!!! 😉 pic.twitter.com/aVTewH4t28

Fatalities have been a core component of the Mortal Kombat video game since the original arcade game back in 1992, although they were absent from the previous movie adaptations in 1995 and 1997, the producers opting to tone down the violence for a PG-13 rating.

Mortal Kombat is being directed by Simon McQuoid, and is set to begin filming in Australia later this year ahead of a March 5th 2021 release. So far, only Joe Taslim (The Raid) has been cast in the film, and will portray the character of Sub-Zero.
