Natalie Portman, Nicholas Hoult and Thandie Newton join The Death and Life of John F. Donovan

February 12, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Deadline has revealed that Natalie Portman, Nicholas Hoult and Thandie Newton have signed on to appear in The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, the upcoming English language debut of writer-director Xavier Dolan.

The Death and Life of John F. Donovan follows “the tribulations of John F. Donovan, an American TV star in his late 20s, and his correspondence with Rupert Turner, a young actor-to-be living with his mother in England. Their lives take dramatic turns when the existence of their pen pal relationship is publicly exposed, eliciting the most ill-founded assumptions and sending Donovan in a vertical downfall. A decade later, the young actor recollects his relationship with his past idol over the course of an interview.”

Dolan, whose credits include I Killed My Mother and Mommy, has been assembling an impressive cast for the film, with the trio joining Kit Harington, Jessica Chastain, Susan Sarandon, Kathy Bates, Michael Gambon, Taylor Kitsch, Bella Thorne, Chris Zylka, Emily Hampshire and singer Adele.
