Neill Blomkamp’s OATS Studios remaking Flight of the Navigator?

November 26, 2017 by Gary Collinson

After releasing a number of acclaimed shorts [watch them here], it looks like District 9 and Elysium director Neill Blomkamp’s OATS Studios has now found its first feature project, with the South African filmmaker revealing on Twitter that the studio is set to tackle the remake of the 80s favourite Flight of the Navigator.

From the above tweets, it is unclear whether Blomkamp will be taking on directorial duties himself, or whether Joe Henderson (Lucifer) will remain on board having been announced as screenwriter last month.

What we do know however is that the next instalment in Blomkamp’s Adam series, titled Adam: The Prophet, is set to premiere at SIGGRAPH Asia on November 29th, and will make its way onto YouTube the following day. Here’s the trailer…

Directed by Randal Kleiser (Grease), Flight of the Navigator follows a 12-year-old boy who is abducted by a UFO, reappearing at exactly the same age eight years later, with no memories of his experiences. When NASA spots a connection between the boy and a recovered UFO, the youngster escapes in the ship and sets off to reunite with his family and unravel the mystery.

UPDATE: Well, it looks like Blomkamp may not be involved after all, as he posted the following clarification:
