Netflix suspends production on House of Cards season 6

October 31, 2017 by Gary Collinson

It’s possible we may have seen the last of Frank Underwood, as Netflix has announced today that it has halted production on the sixth season of its flagship drama series House of Cards.

Yesterday, in the wake of the sexual abuse allegations surrounding star Kevin Spacey, the streaming service officially announced that the upcoming sixth season would be the series’ last, but now comes word that filming has been halted entirely.

“MRC and Netflix have decided to suspend production on House of Cards season six, until further notice, to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew,” reads the official statement.

Earlier today, it was also reported that Netflix is considering developing a spinoff from House of Cards, and is tossing around three potential ideas. It’s said that these were planned prior to the allegations against Spacey, who has been accused of attempting to sexually abuse against Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp when he was just 14 years old.

While Spacey’s continued involvement with House of Cards seems uncertain at present, it has been confirmed today that Sony is moving ahead with the release of its upcoming Ridley Scott film All the Money in the World – which sees Spacey playing oli magnate J. Paul Getty – and the film will open in December after premiering at the AFI Fest in November.
