Nicholas Galitzine to play He-Man in Amazon’s Masters of the Universe

May 29, 2024 by EJ Moreno

By the power of Grayskull, we have our He-Man as Amazon has cast rising star Nicholas Galitzine as the hero in their Masters of the Universe film.

Travis Knight will direct from a screenplay by Chris Butler. Development on the project has been ongoing for some time. We reported the director’s attachment back in February of this year.

Little is known about the film’s plot, and the rest of the cast remains a mystery at the time of reporting. Masters of the Universe has landed a worldwide theatrical on June 5, 2026.

Galitzine already has a working relationship with Amazon, as he’s starred in three of their biggest hit rom-coms: Red, White, & Royal Blue, Cinderella, and this year’s The Idea of You.

Masters of the Universe centers on Price Adam of Eternia, who, thanks to his Power Sword, turns into He-Man and is embued with superhuman strength and abilities, which he uses to defend his native planet and Castle Grayskull.

Originating as a toy line from Mattel in 1982, Masters of the Universe quickly became popular and spawned the animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, followed by She-Ra: Princess of Power. A live-action film was made in 1987, which starred Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella as He-Man and Skeletor, respectively, and though it bombed at the box office, it has since earned a cult following among He-Man fans.

Stay tuned to Flickering Myth for more news on films and projects like this, and be sure to let us know on our socials what you make of this He-Man casting, and whether you think we might finally see the Masters of the Universe reboot become a reality…
