Nicholas Meyer has been developing a Star Trek trilogy for CBS All Access, but it’s on hold

May 22, 2018 by Gary Collinson

In addition to signing on as part of the writer’s room for Star Trek: Discovery, it was reported last year that Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country director Nicholas Meyer was developing another Trek project for CBS All Access.

Rumours suggested that said project would be a miniseries focusing on Khan Noonien Singh and the crew of the SS Botany Bay in the years between The Original Series episode ‘Space Speed’ and The Wrath of Khan.

Well, during a Q&A at the University of California (via Trek Core), Meyer has confirmed that he has indeed been working on a trilogy of Star Trek films, although it may be some time before they see the light of day due to a possible “re-merger” of CBS and Viacom/Paramount Pictures.

“I was hired to write a stand-alone Star Trek-related trilogy,” said Meyer. “I can’t discuss or I’d have to kill you. [Laughs] I was writing it for CBS All Access… but at the moment CBS is at a war with Paramount/Viacom, They’re in a power struggle, which turned really nasty this past week when CBS decided to sue [its parent company]. So, I don’t think my project is going anywhere in a hurry, because everything is on hold while they sort out this merger business. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.”

While Meyer’s project is on hold, CBS All Access is currently in production on the second season of Star Trek: Discovery, while Paramount Pictures is moving ahead with Star Trek 4, and also has Quentin Tarantino’s feature film project in development.
