Nick Frost joins live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie

January 13, 2024 by Ricky Church

Universal’s live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon has added another member to its cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) has become the latest name to join the film.

How to Train Your Dragon follows the story of Hiccup, a young Viking who befriends a young dragon he names Toothless even as his father Stoick, leader of their Viking clan, is determined to protect their village from dragons and wipe them from the face of the earth. The original film was released in 2010 and began a sprawling franchise consisting of spin-off TV shows and two feature film sequels.

Frost will play Gobber the Belch, the trusted friend and adviser of Stoick. He joins Mason Thames (The Black Phone) as Hiccup and Nico Parker (The Last of Us) as Astrid, Hiccup’s friend and romantic interest. Gerard Butler will reprise his role from the animated How to Train Your Dragon films as Stoick for the live-action film.

Based on the book by Cressida Cowell, 2010’s How to Train Your Dragon was a surprise success upon its release, bringing in nearly $500 million at the box-office and earning Academy Award nominations for best-animated film and best score, as well as creating one of the most beloved animated creations in recent times with Toothless the dragon.  The second and third films were also a huge success, earning nominations for the best-animated movie during their respective years. The original trilogy has grossed more than $1.6 billion at the box office, and spawned numerous spin-offs.

How to Train Your Dragon will fly in to cinemas on June 13th, 2025.
