Nicolas Cage praises Hayden Christensen’s “superb” performance as Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels

February 4, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Among the many criticisms levied towards George Lucas’ Star Wars Prequel Trilogy is the depiction of Anakin Skywalker, and Hayden Christensen’s portrayal (a.k.a. Mannequin Skywalker) has certainly come in for plenty of stick over the years.

However, it seems Christensen’s Outcast co-star Nicolas Cage is a fan of his work as the future Dark Lord of the Sith, with Cage offering up some praise during an interview with IGN.

“I watched George’s movies, and the work Hayden did with George, and I was very impressed with Hayden’s sort of edgy, dangerous, dark and still soulful performance,” states Cage. “I thought it was superb. And so I really connected with him.”

Of course Christensen can’t take all of the blame for Anakin, as Lucas struggled to get decent performances out of several of his actors in the Prequels, including Oscar-winner Natalie Portman, who recently revealed that no directors wanted to work with her after her turn as Padme.

Is Cage right? Are you a fan of Christensen’s “edgy, dangerous, dark and soulful” performance? Let us know in the comments below…
