Noah Hawley gives an update on his Doctor Doom movie following Disney’s Fox takeover

January 7, 2018 by Gary Collinson

During last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that Legion showrunner Noah Hawley would be developing a Doctor Doom movie for 20th Century Fox.

Of course, circumstances have changed dramatically since then, with The Walt Disney Company agreeing a takeover of Fox’s movie and TV assets, which means that both the Fantastic Four and X-Men are now available to Marvel Studios and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This takeover raises big question marks about Fox’s various Marvel projects (including the likes of X-Force, Multiple Man, and the planned New Mutants sequels), but Hawley has revealed to Collider that as far as he’s concerned, it is business as usual until he hears otherwise.

“I haven’t had a single conversation yet about Doom in the context of the merger. On some level, we’re still looking at a period of time – probably a year, at the least – for this whole thing to go through. Who knows, corporately, what conversations will be had, but certainly, until it goes through, it’s not a legal thing. I don’t know. I’ve been waiting for the phone to ring to see if anyone is gonna have an opinion. Otherwise, it’s just business as usual for me.”

Given that Victor Von Doom is one of – if not the – most iconic villains in the Marvel universe, it would surely be a big surprise if Marvel Studios moves ahead with a standalone Doom movie, but perhaps it’s possibly to rework Hawley’s script as part of the MCU?

Let us know whether you’re still interested in a Doctor Doom movie, or if you’d prefer Marvel Studios to start afresh and develop its own take on the character…
