Paramount blocks the Alamo Drafthouse from replacing The Interview with Team America: World Police

December 18, 2014 by Alfie Nobes

After the recent controversy surrounding Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s upcoming comedy The Interview,  the film has disappointingly had its original release date cancelled.  However this hasn’t stopped the Alamo Drafthouse theater in Dallas from putting on another hilarious film in its place.  This particular cinema is planning a one-off screening of Trey Stone and Matt Parker’s Team America: World Police in place of the Sony Pictures feature.

The Hollywood Reporter has stated that the screening will be free and include members of staff handing out patriotic items such as American flags.  It has also been reported than the screening will be a sing-along. When asked about the screening, James Wallace, creative manager and programmer at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema’s Dallas said “”We’re just trying to make the best of an unfortunate situation”.

UPDATE: Deadline have reported that Paramount Pictures has sadly canceled the Alamo Drafthouse’s upcoming screening of Team America: World Police. The Alamo Drafthouse responded saying that the cancellation is “due to circumstances beyond our control.”

If you’re disappointed about the change in plans and still want to watch Team America: World Police you can catch it on Netflix (F*** YEAH!).

In the action-comedy The Interview, Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen) run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show “Skylark Tonight.” When they discover that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the two least-qualified men imaginable, to assassinate Kim Jong-un.
