Paramount delays Top Gun: Maverick, Mission: Impossible 7 and 8, sets new Star Trek release date

April 13, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Tom Cruise fans are going to have to wait a little longer to see more death-defying stunts and daredevil feats from the Hollywood star as Paramount Pictures has delayed Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 as the studio shuffles its post-lockdown slate.

As revealed by Deadline, Top Gun: Maverick has moved from July 2nd to November 19th, taking Mission: Impossible 7’s current date. The next instalment in the spy series will now hit on May 27th 2022, with Mission: Impossible 8 moving from November 4th 2022 to July 7th 2023.

Along with the trio of Tom Cruise movies, Dungeons & Dragons has been pushed from May 27th 2022 to March 3rd 2023, but it’s not all delays as Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins has been moved up to July 23rd, having previously been set for October 22nd.

Meanwhile, despite the fact the studio is reportedly undecided on how to proceed with the franchise, Paramount has also set a June 9th 2023 release date for the next big screen offering from the Star Trek franchise. Whether that turns out to be Noah Hawley’s original story, Quentin Tarantino’s pitch, the planned NuTrek 4 with Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth, or something else entirely, we shall have to wait and see.
