Peyton Reed wanted Rick Moranis to cameo in the first Ant-Man movie

July 9, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Out and about on the promotional campaign for Ant-Man and the Wasp, director Peyton Reed made an appearance on the Honest Reactions show, where he revealed that he hoped to entice Rick Moranis to cameo in the first Ant-Man movie but was, perhaps unsurprisingly, unsuccessful.

“We actually, at one point, attempted to get a Rick Moranis cameo in the first movie – still during the period, I think, where he wasn’t doing so much acting,” said Reed. “I think he’s now gonna be on the SCTV Scorsese-directed thing, which I’m super psyched about. But always, still, an unchecked box for me.”

Moranis – whose movies included Ghostbusters, Little Shop of Horrors, Spaceballs and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids – quit acting in 1997, taking on only a handful of voice acting roles in the following years while turning down other roles such as a cameo in Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot.

He did however recently reprise the role of Dark Helmet – voice only – for an episode of The Goldbergs and will appear in Martin Scorsese’s SCTV reunion for Netflix, so perhaps Reed will be able to check that off his bucket list with Ant-Man 3?

From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes Ant-Man and The Wasp, a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink. In the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War, Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a super hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past.

Ant-Man and the Wasp sees Peyton Reed returning to the director’s chair and stars Paul Rudd (Scott Lang), Evangeline Lilly (Hope Van Dyne), Michael Douglas (Hank Pym), Michael Pena (Luis), David Dastmalchian (Kurt), Abby Ryder Fortson (Cassie Lang), Judy Greer (Maggie), Bobby Cannavale (Paxton) and T.I. (Dave), while new additions to the cast include Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, Laurence Fishburne as Dr. Bill Foster/Goliath, Hannah John-Kamen as The Ghost, Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch and Randall Park as Jimmy Woo.
