Pig director Michael Sarnoski replaces Jeff Nichols on A Quiet Place spinoff

January 12, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

There was some disappointment when it was announced that Take Shelter and Midnight Special director Jeff Nichols had exited the A Quiet Place spin-off at the tail end of last year, with his low-key sensibilities a seemingly good fit for John Krasinski’s world, but it appears Paramount Pictures have whispered in the ear of another highly sought-after director with the news that Pig director Michael Sarnoski is set to land the gig.

According to Deadline’s sources Sarnoski is in negotiations to direct the untitled next installment in A Quiet Place franchise, and that he has also been tapped to write a script.

Details on the project are being kept suitably hush-hush, but the film has previously been described as a next instalment, which will broaden the post-apocalyptic world introduced in the first two movies. However, the untitled spinoff will not serve as a sequel to A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II but is based on an idea from John Krasinski.

Paramount hope that the spinoff can open up this apocalyptic world so that they can mine the IP for years to come. A Quiet Place Part II was one of the first pandemic era success stories, holding off from a VOD release to open with $57M at the domestic box-office and a worldwide cume of $300M. There’s even talk of a videogame being in development alongside this spinoff.
