Prime Video grants series order to Fourth Wing with Michael B. Jordan and Lisa Joy producing

May 13, 2026 by Ricky Church

Prime Video’s series adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ Fourth Wing is ready to take flight. A series order has been given to the franchise with Yarros executive producing alongside Michael B. Jordan and Lisa Joy.

The first book in The Empyrean series follows Violet Sorrengail as she is forced by her mother, one of the highest ranking generals in their country, to enter into the elite Basgiath War College to become a dragon rider. While there she must undergo intense training, betrayals and conspiracies in order to survive. The synopsis for the book reads:

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away…because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.

She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.

Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom’s protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.

Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.

Fourth Wing will be showrun by Meredith Averall (Wednesday) with her writing and the series and Joy directing the pilot. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo will produce through Outlier Society while Joy, Jonathan Nolan and Athena Wickham will produce for Kilter Films. Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark will also produce for Premeditated Productions.

“Rebecca’s books have become one of the fastest-selling franchises of the 21st century, with a fandom so passionate, so devoted, they don’t just read these books, they live in them, and it’s because Fourth Wing is everything at once,” Averill said. “The emotional stakes are sky high, the battles are epic, power dynamics are thrilling, and underneath it is so much humor and heart and a romance that will consume you.”

Fourth Wing is followed by the sequels Iron Flame and Onyx Storm with two more novels to follow.
