Quentin Tarantino hints that Kill Bill 3 could be his next film and that he wants to “make a comedy”

October 21, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

That headline flies in the face of what we’ve been led to believe about Quentin Tarantino’s next film, and that’s the fact that it would be his last. However, speaking at the Rome Film Festival (via Variety) as he accepted a lifetime achievement award from Dario Argento, he told reporters about the projects he has coming up, including the news that his next film could be Kill Bill Vol. 3, and that he wants to “make a comedy”.

When the idea of a trilogy-capping third volume for his Kill Bill movies was put to the Once Upon A Time in Hollywood…. auteur he simply replied “why not?”. Hardly a groundbreaking response. But the Oscar-winner director was a lot more effusive about what genre of film he’d like to tackle next, telling Italian broadcaster RAI that “first I want to make a comedy”. All of which makes it seem as though the 10-and-out retirement plan might not be happening after all.

The Django helmer then excitedly expanded on his comedy plans in his own unique stream of consciousness style, explaining “It’s not like my next movie. It’s a piece of something else that I’m thinking about doing, and I’m not going to describe what it is. But part of this thing, there is supposed to be a Spaghetti Western in it.” He continued “I’m looking forward to shooting that [thing] because it’s going to be really fun. Because I want to shoot it in the Spaghetti Western style where everybody’s speaking a different language. The Mexican Bandido is an Italian; the hero is an American; the bad sheriff is a German; the Mexican saloon girl is Israeli. And everybody is speaking a different language. And you just know: OK, when he’s finished talking then I can talk.”

We’re used to having Tarantino linked to everything from Star Trek to Bond, so what do you make of his latest comments? Would you like to see him turn his hand to a different genre, perhaps taking inspiration from Argento, or are you eager to see him return to the world of Uma Thurman’s Bride?
