Red band trailer for Wicked Little Letters starring Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley

October 26, 2023 by Amie Cranswick

StudioCanal has released a red band trailer for director Thea Sharrock’s mystery comedy Wicked Little Letters.

Based on true events, the film centres on neighbours Edith (Olivia Colman) and Rose (Jessie Buckley) as the residents of their seaside town in 1920s England begin to receive outrageous anonymous letters filled with profanity which rowdy Rose is charged for, but the town’s women begin to suspect something in amiss and launch their own investigation in an effort to clear her name.

A 1920s English seaside town bears witness to a dark and absurd scandal in this riotous mystery comedy. Based on a stranger than fiction true story, WICKED LITTLE LETTERS follows two neighbours: deeply conservative local Edith Swan (Olivia Colman) and rowdy Irish migrant Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley). When Edith and fellow residents begin to receive wicked letters full of unintentionally hilarious profanities, foul-mouthed Rose is charged with the crime. The anonymous letters prompt a national uproar, and a trial ensues. However, as the town’s women – led by Police Officer Gladys Moss (Anjana Vasan) – begin to investigate the crime themselves, they suspect that something is amiss, and Rose may not be the culprit after all.

The film stars Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley, Anjana Vasan, Timothy Spall, Joanna Scanlan, Hugh Skinner, Malachi Kirby, Gemma Jones, Lolly Adefope, Eileen Atkins, and Alisha Weir.

Wicked Little Letters arrives in cinemas on February 23rd.
