Renny Harlin brings together sharks and planes for Deep Water

May 17, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Renny Harlin has taken his thrilling action romps to the air and the sea, and now he’ll combine the two in an upcoming “Sharks on a Plane” thriller.

The iconic filmmaker will helm Deep Water; the first film greenlit under the new company Simmons/Hamilton Productions. The project will merge some of Harlin’s famous works, Deep Blue Sea and Die Hard 2.

The official synopsis for the survival thriller follows an eclectic group of international passengers whose plane, en route from LA to Shanghai, is forced to make an emergency landing in shark-infested waters.

Harlin expresses his joy in an official statement which reads: “I’ve had my greatest success when working with planes or sharks. Getting to combine those two of my favorite thriller elements in a character-driven action-adventure is a dream come true. I can’t wait to take the audience on the scariest plane ride of their lives. Gene and Gary both are my old friends, and I’m excited to rock n roll through the friendly skies with them.”

Simmons/Hamilton Productions is a new film production company from legendary KISS co-founder Gene Simmons and Arclight Films chairman Gary Hamilton, which aims to develop, finance, and produce feature films. The company looks to create “25 movies over an initial five-year period, focusing on action, thriller, and other genre titles with franchise potential.”

Filming on Renny Harlin’s Deep Water will begin later this year.
