Richard Donner confirms Lethal Weapon 5 plans, Mel Gibson and Danny Glover on board

December 10, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Back in October it was reported that director Richard Donner and stars Mel Gibson and Danny Glover were keen to reunite for a fifth instalment in the Lethal Weapon franchise, and now Donner has confirmed that during an interview with the Spocklight Podcast (via Dark Horizons).

“It’s a story I came up with with Channing Gibson, the writer who wrote Lethal Weapon 4, and I’m just having to work it out with the studio,” said Donner, who directed all four of the first instalments in the series. “If everybody steps up and we all get together, we’ll make it. Mel and Danny are on board. If it doesn’t work out, at least we tried. But there’s a better chance that you will see the movie.”

The first Lethal Weapon movie was released in 1987, and sequels followed in 1989, 1992 and 1998. Between them, the movies grossed over $950 million at the box office, as well as spawning the recent TV series on Fox, which sees Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans in the Gibson and Glover roles as Riggs and Murtaugh.

Are you looking forward to the prospect of a fifth Lethal Weapon, or are Donner, Gibson and Glover too old for this shit? Let us know in the comments below…
