Ridley Scott in talks to direct The Merlin Saga for Disney

January 5, 2018 by Ricky Church

It seems Ridley Scott may be following up All the Money in the World with a foray into the fantasy genre. Variety has reported Scott is in talks with Disney to direct The Merlin Saga, a film based on the book series by T.A. Barron about the powerful wizard who would later mentor King Arthur.

Scott would also produce through his production company, Scott Free Productions, with Gil Netter. Phillipa Boyens, who wrote The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies with Peter Jackson, will write the script for The Merlin Saga.

The synopsis for the first book in the series, The Lost Years of Merlin, reads:

A raging sea tosses a boy upon the shores of ancient Wales. Left for dead, he has no memory, no name, and no home. But it is his determination to find out who he is—to learn the truth about his mysterious powers—that leads him to a strange and enchanted land. And it is there he discovers that the fate of this land and his personal quest are strangely entwined.

The film, according to Barron on his website, will be a combination of The Lost Years and the saga’s second book, The Seven Songs.
