Rob McElhenney to direct Minecraft movie

July 22, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Warner Bros. and Mojang have secured a director for their upcoming Minecraft movie, with It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia co-creator and star Rob McElhenny signing on to helm the video game adaptation.

McElhenny will replace Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum), who was announced as attached to the project back in October. McElhenny is yet to direct a feature, with his previous credits limited to three episodes of It’s Always Sunny and the FX pilot Pariah, although he did close a deal with Legendary Pictures last year to helm a family action-adventure movie called Figment.
