Robert Downey Jr. stars in trailer for Park Chan-wook series The Sympathizer

Max has released a trailer for The Sympathizer, the upcoming espionage thriller limited series from directors Park Chan-wook, Marc Munden, and Fernando Meirelles.

Based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, the series follows a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy as he makes a new life for himself in a refugee community in Los Angeles near the end of the Vietnam War, where he finds himself continuing to secretly spy. The Sympathizer is an espionage thriller and cross-culture satire about the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his new life as a refugee in Los Angeles, where he learns that his spying days aren’t over.

The series stars Robert Downey Jr. in multiple roles alongside Hoa Xuande, Fred Nguyen Khan, Toan Le, Phanxine, Vy Le, Ky Duyen, Kieu Chinh, Duy Nguyen, Alan Trong, and Sandra Oh.

The Sympathizer premieres on Max on April 14th.
