Robert Rodriguez directing a live-action Jonny Quest movie

May 27, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids, Sin City) has signed on to direct a live-action version of Jonny Quest, the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon about a young boy who accompanies his father on extraordinary adventures.

As well as directing the Warner Bros. project, Rodriguez is set to co-write alongside Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean), while Dan Lin (Godzilla) will serve as producer.

The Adventures of Jonny Quest premiere in 1964 and ran for just 26 episodes. It was subsequently revived in both the 1980s and 1990s, while a feature film has been in development since the early 90s, having passed through the hands of directors such as Richard Donner (Superman: The Movie), Andy Fick (Race to Witch Mountain) and Peter Segal (Grudge Match).
