Rumour: Tom Holland in talks for Spider-Man cameo in Venom 2

December 29, 2019 by Gary Collinson

As filming continues on Venom 2, a rumour is doing the rounds via Geeks Worldwide which claims that Tom Holland is currently in talks with Sony about making a cameo appearance as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the follow-up to 2018’s hit Venom solo movie.

Now, if you followed production on the first Venom closely, you may be getting a sense of déjà vu as it was rumoured on numerous occasions that Holland’s web-slinger was in line for a cameo in the first film, with Holland himself stating that he’d jump at the chance to work with Tom Hardy if the opportunity arose.

As Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige stressed on multiple occasions in the lead up to Venom’s release , Hardy’s Venom and Holland’s Spidey exist in distinct universes (Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters and the Marvel Cinematic Universe respectively); however, Feige’s stance appeared to change somewhat this summer after Disney and Sony renegotiated a new deal on the Spider-Man movie rights, with the producer stating that “[Spider-Man] happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes”.

It’s certainly not beyond the realm of possibility that this new deal included a stipulation allowing Sony to make use of Holland’s Spider-Man within its own universe, and a cameo appearance in Venom 2 would certainly be the smart way to build up to an eventual crossover movie featuring the two comic book foes.

While we have to treat the report as an unconfirmed rumour at present, be sure to let us know whether you’d like to see Holland’s Spider-Man making an appearance in Venom 2, and how you think it might work given the characters currently exist in different cinematic universes…

Venom 2 is currently in production under director Andy Serkis (Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle) from a script by Venom writer Kelly Marcel, and sees the return of Tom Hardy (Eddie Brock/Venom), Michelle Williams (Anne Weying) and Woody Harrelson (Cletus Kasady/Carnage) alongside new additions Naomie Harris (No Time To Die) and Stephen Graham (The Irishman). It is set for release on October 2nd 2020.
