On The Pick of the Flicks Podcast, a different guest drops in every week to chat about their favourite film. This week, Nick Rowland – director of new drama Calm With Horses – talks about being inspired by the terrific Rust and Bone…

On this week’s episode of The Pick of the Flicks Podcast, the director Nick Rowland – the man behind new crime drama Calm With Horses – reveals his love for Jacques Audiard’s stunning drama Rust and Bone, starring Marion Cotillard and Matthias Schoenaerts. We discuss the movie’s unusual tonal jumps, Schoenaerts’ bruising physicality and the rally driving film Rowland wants to make next.

Ex-boxer Douglas ‘Arm’ Armstrong (Cosmo Jarvis LADY MACBETH, PEAKY BLINDERS) is the faithful and violent right-hand-man to the drug-dealing Devers clan, ready to dole out beatings at the whim of his best friend, and the family’s unpredictable protégé, Dympna (Barry Keoghan DUNKIRK, AMERICAN ANIMALS). Arm’s struggle to find his place in the world has consequences on his relationship with his ex-girlfriend Ursula (Niamh Algar THE VIRTUES, THE LAST RIGHT) as she strives to find a better life for herself and their young son Jack.

Calm With Horses is released into UK cinemas on 13th March.
