Saoirse Ronan is a recovering alcoholic in The Outrun trailer

May 30, 2024 by Amie Cranswick

StudioCanal has released a poster and trailer for director Nora Fingscheidt’s upcoming drama The Outrun.

Based on Amy Liptrot’s bestselling memoir of the same name, the film follows Rona (Saoirse Ronan), as she returns home to the Ornkey Islands after a decade, where she hopes to recover from and come to terms with her troubled past.

After a decade away in London, 29-year-old Rona (Saoirse Ronan) returns home to the Orkney Islands.

Sober but lonely, she tries to suppress her memory of the events which set her on this journey of recovery.

Slowly the beauty and lore of the land enters her inner world and – one day at a time – Rona finds hope and strength in herself among the heavy gales and the bracingly cold sea.

Joining Saoirse Ronan in the cast are Paapa Essiedu, Stephen Dillane, and Saskia Reeves.

The Outrun arrives in cinemas on September 27th.
